Grillz, rap songs, and community.

The last thing I expected from my first week at CGA was to dress up and perform a rap song in front of the rest of my classmates, and yet that is exactly where I found myself this past Thursday afternoon.

For the past week my fellow classmates and I went on a retreat to kick-off the new semester and process through our past seasons. We traded in our phones and computers for cups of coffee and good conversation. A lot of the time was spent growing in intimacy with the Lord and preparing for the semester. The rest of the time was spent getting to know 28 new faces and their life stories. One of our “assignments” was a full-blown lip sync battle. We divided into teams based on where we lived and only had 30 minutes a night to practice. Typically, this type of fun is not my cup of tea. But in a turn of events, my team carefully selected the iconic rap song “Grillz” by Nelly and I stepped into the role of lead rapper. We had a complete blast wearing tinfoil in our mouths and rapping meaningless lyrics to our surprised yet amused classmates. Our dance moves were impressive as well.

This week I am so thankful that the Lord has placed me around people I am comfortable around who are passionate about community!
